Baxter is our rescue puppy who came to us as a miracle. Only 6 months old, Baxter lived frightened, all alone in the Maricopa Animal Shelter. After hearing an add on the radio that mentioned that the animal shelters were beginning to overcrowd and homes were needed more than ever, we decided to head down to see if we could help out. Sure enough, Baxter, our mutt (beagle, bassett hound, pitt bull mix?) stood out to us. When we first tried to take him out of his kennel to have a visit with him, he hid in the back, afraid of all of the people. He had no interest in walking on a leash either. We fell in love, but decided to take a trip to the other shelter to make sure that he was the one knowing that if he was adopted out in the meantime then at least he would have a home. Baxter was on our mind all day and within an hour, we were back at the shelter with adoption papers in hand. As we were taking down his information, two ladies walked up to us, asked us if we were going to adopt Baxter, got teary eyed and gave us hugs. They informed us that because of the over crowding and Baxter's slight cold, if nobody had adopted him that day they were going to have to put him down. Baxter is an amazing dog with so much life ahead of him. He loves to have his belly rubbed, play with his toys and cuddle. I truly believe that Baxter came into our lives for a reason and love to watch him learn new things everyday. He went from death row to king of the house. Such a cutie :)
