Iams Food Recall
Submitted by Tiffany on Mon, 08/02/2010 - 4:07pm
Iams pet food has announced a voluntary recall of selected dry cat and dog food. Iams has elected to recall specific diets due to a possible salmonella contamination at the packaging plant. To date none of the food tested have come back positive for salmonella and no pets have been reported ill from eating the specified foods.
Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact us immediately.
University Animal Hospital does not carry any Iams products, so clients purchasing their food through us are unaffected by this recall. If you feed your cat or dog any of the Iams Veterinary Diets or Eukanuba Naturally Wild, Eukanuba Pure or Eukanuba Custom Care Sensitive Skin food with an expiration date between July 1st, 2010 and Dec. 1st, 2011it is recommended to discontinue use. Please contact us for information regarding alternate diets.
