University Animal Hospital has come a long way since it opened in 1962. Some clients may even remember visiting our veteran doctors at the building on Broadway. Let's celebrate 48 years serving the East Valley with a trip down memory lane.
To better serve the needs of patients, Dr. Gus decided to build a new hospital. Construction started in 1995 and we moved into the new hospital in June of 1996. The construction took 16 months to complete. The new hospital would be 5 times larger than the old building and boarding capacity would be increased from 35 to over 200 animals.
The goal was to create a one stop shopping environment for pet owners. This would include medical, boarding, and grooming services as well as providing for dietary and supply needs. We wanted to create a state of the art building that allowed us to provide advanced veterinary care into the 21st century. The design was created by an architectural firm that specializes in veterinary facilities. On completion the building won an award from the city of Tempe for its design innovations.
