You will notice that these rooms are equipped with everything the doctor will need for an exam, allowing you to be present while your pet is being checked out. If your pet needs tests or treatments, they will be escorted by one of our animal nurses to the treatment area and returned to you promptly.

Owner Education

We believe owner education is critical to a pet's health and offer many resources to better teach our clients.

During the exam, if you have questions do not hesitate to ask your doctor. Not only are we able to send you home with literature about your pet, we are able to explore your pet's diagnosis with our interactive video. The Pet Health Network touch screen video allows our doctors to show you exactly what they are talking about and help you better understand your pet's diagnosis.

We believe that knowledge is paramount in successfully treating a pet and that is why we offer this same information to be accessed by our clients from home. All you need to do is email yourself from our video display with any article of interest, this will authorize you to access all information on the Pet Health Network online.

Ultrasound and X-Ray

University Animal Hospital uses state of the art medical equipment including ultrasound, digital x-ray, endoscopy and EKG. These diagnostic tools help us get a better understanding of exactly what is going on inside your pet.

Our ability to perform these high quality diagnostics in house, means that you don't have to wait to see a specialist. When time is important, we are here to provide the services your pet needs when it needs to be done.

Digital x-rays are faster and crisper than traditional films. They can also be burned to a CD, so they are easier for clients to transfer to a specialist.

Surgery Suite

At University Animal Hospital we strive to provide the best possible service and our surgery suite is a perfect example. We are fully equipped with monitoring devices, overhead oxygen and carbon dioxide (CO2) laser.

You can also rest assured that the safety of your pet is our top priority. We recommend pre-surgical blood tests and placing IV catheter and running fluids for all animals that go under anesthetic, and we do require these procedures for all pets over 5 years old. We use the safest gas anesthesia and induction products available and our surgical nurses will be with your pet from induction to recovery.

Treatment Room

Our treatment area is where the more complex procedures take place. It is here that animals are prepped for surgery, blood is drawn and simple anesthetic procedures take place.

This is also the location of our intensive care unit (ICU). Animals needing constant observation are located here where the nursing staff is able to keep a constant eye on their condition.

Minor Surgeries

Minor surgeries performed in this area include ear hematoma repair(seen here), abscess treatment, ear cleaning and placing urinary catheters. These treatments can be done the same day your pet is seen and often your pet is able to go home in just a few hours.

Veterinary Technicians

Our experienced animal nurses are trained in all aspects of veterinary medicine. From bandage application (shown here) to blood draws and fluid treatment. We have veterinary nurses designated to the treatment area at all times, ensuring that all pets are taken care of promptly and efficiently.

Medical Wards

University Animal Hospital is equipped with six medical wards, including an isolation unit and ICU. These wards are the home of our surgery and hospitalized patients, as well as our doctor supervised boarders. All pets staying in the hospital are checked on hourly by our veterinary nurses and monitored for attitude, eating, drinking and eliminations while they are with us. Cats and dogs are kept in separate wards to help ease stress. Our isolation unit allows us to hospitalize contagious pets such as puppies with parvo and cats with respiratory infections and our staff takes extra precautions in caring for these patients to keep the rest of the hospital safe.

University Animal Hospital is not staffed 24 hours, there is nobody on the premesis from approximately 9:00 pm to 5:30 am. In the event your pet needs 24 hour oberservational care our doctors will inform you of trusted facilities to transfer to and will send you with any necessary medications, medical notes and test results. Because the health of your pet is our top priority, we will always give you all your options so that you can make an informed decision.

Laboratory

Labratory tests are critical in making a correct diagnosis of a patient's medical condition.  Our in house lab allows doctors to check blood, urine, stool and cytologies immediately.  This means that we are able offer the best treatment options faster, and in an emergency situation this can make all the difference.  In some situations, the doctor may want to run more specific tests.  In these cases we are able to send more comprehensive panels to our outside lab, these test results are typically back within 72 hours.

If you are planning on dropping off a sample for our lab please note urine and stool cannot be more than 12 hours old and must be refrigerated if not brought to us immediately.  Unless this sample was requested by a doctor, you will likely still need to bring your pet in for an exam in order to receive medication for any medical condition.

Dental Care Center

At Univeristy Animal Hospital, we believe dental hygeine is one of the most important aspects of a pet's health. Our staff is highly trained in treating dental disease and we are able to perform dental cleanings 5 days a week. In addition to a skilled hand cleaning and polishing, we are able to perform dental x-rays, fluoride treatments, antibiotic treatments and extractions.

Pharmacy

Because diagnosis only part of treatment, Univeristy Animal Hospital has a fully stocked pharmacy. This means that you don't have to worry about finding the medications your doctor recommends.  We offer the latest in pharmaceuticals so that your pet can receive the best possible treatment.

In the event that your pet needs a special medication or dosage that we do not carry, we will make sure you receive it in a timely fashion.  We work with many valley compounding pharmacies that deliver to your home, or we can write you prescription to have filled at your regular pharmacy.

Customer Call Center

In order to ensure our clients receive the best possible care, University Animal Hospital has set up a phone center.  All phone calls are routed to this area, keeping our front desk receptionists free to help clients in the hospital.  Our automated phone system will route your call to the right staff member ensuring your appointment request, boarding reservation or medical question is answered quickly and politely.

Grooming

At University Animal Hospital, we want your pet to look as good as it feels.

The Pet Salon at University Animal Hospital offers grooming seven days a week. Our three groomers have over 60 years of combined experience and they are ready to tidy up your furry friend.

Cats and dogs alike are welcomed by our groomers, but don't worry our groomers will wait until it is quiet before bringing a kitty out for a bath. And don't worry if your pet has special needs, our groomers are caring professionals that will do their best to accomodate all pets.

Our groomers will always keep your needs and wishes in mind when grooming your pet and they will always do their best to make sure your pet goes home looking great.

Doctors' Offices

While on duty, doctors have their own office area. This doctors' office is located just off the treatment area, separated by a glass sliding door - so doctors are always able to watch any activity while they work. In this office doctors are able to call back clients, work on charts and confer with specialists without ever having to leave their patients.
